Friendly line dancing classes and socials in Brighton where everyone is welcome on the dance floor

Beginner's Guide

Helping you grow in confidence before your first class or social.

Whether you are completely new to line dancing or simply new to Trailblazers LDC, our aim is to make classes and socials feel friendly, welcoming and easy to enjoy.

Starting with classes

If you are unsure where to begin, classes are usually the best place to start.

They give you the chance to learn in a supportive setting, build confidence gradually and get used to the music, steps and atmosphere without any pressure to know everything straight away.

Going to a social

A line dance social is a relaxed event where people come together to dance, enjoy the music and have fun in a friendly atmosphere. They often run on a dance request basis and sometimes include live acts or guest performers. This makes them a great way for new line dancers to watch, join in when they feel ready and build confidence outside of class. You do not need to know every dance to attend a social.

Some people come mainly to dance, while others come to watch, join in where they can and enjoy the atmosphere. Both are absolutely fine.

If you are going to a social for the first time, we strongly encourage you to read our Etiquette Guide first. It explains how the dance floor is shared and helps everyone enjoy the event comfortably and respectfully.

What to wear

Wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in, as you can find yourself warming up quite quickly once you get moving.

For footwear, sensible flat or low-heeled shoes are best. Many line dancers wear cowboy boots or dance trainers / sneakers from Pulse, Fuego, Bloch or Capezio amongst other brands.

Shoes should feel secure on your feet and allow you to move comfortably on the dance floor.

Please avoid stilettos, flip-flops, backless shoes, loose and open-toed sandals as these can be unsafe and are not suitable for dancing.

Joining us for the first time

If you are joining us for the first time, arriving a little early can be helpful.

It gives you time to settle in, get comfortable and ask any questions before the class or social begins.
